Accolades for These Days
The music on this CD is a mix of bluesy/desert sounding Rock and Doom. Multiple layers of guitar lead over a real tight rhythm section. Even though they act as one tight unit, the feel is somewhat loose and laid back at times... It reminds me at times like Nebula, Clutch, Mudhoney... The Mudhoney reference applies mainly to the fuzzed out guitars and lead vocals. The vocals are strong and mainly in the lower register, kind of like Mr. Arm. The riffs on the other hand are sometimes blues grooves, switching to real syncopated guitar lines that kind of dance around the fret board. The overall flow is pretty well throughout the whole CD. Decent production and just the right amount of music for a demo.
Calamus is a prime example of the hope I have for post-Kyuss groove. They are original, they are tight, and they are extremely talented. They are the gatekeepers of the promised land for groove lovers everywhere.
