The band has lost none of their quirkiness on Houdini. The lyrics are as incomprehensible as ever and master of ceremonies King Buzzo intones them as if they were the most important words ever spoken. His raw, commanding vocal style is more rock 'n' roll than Elvis. Combined with the brutal yet charismatic drumming of Dale Crover, it sets Melvins apart from the wannabes. Melvins don't even NEED to try. Fans of records such as Stoner Witch and The Maggot who haven't heard Houdini should do themselves a favor and bolster their collection with this gem.
