For: 3rd Degree Burnout From: Stonerrock.com by hogfeldt - 04/01/01 This is Daredevil first release on High Beam Records. Theyve also released a 6 track CD-EP on Chatterbox Records in `99 (if you dont have it, you should...). The easiest way to describe Daredevils sound is stonerrock but served up in a high energy rock style. Make a sonic stew of bands like Unida, Fu Manchu, COC, Hellacopters... add a little Sabbath and Skynyrd and youll probably end up with something like Daredevil. Revolution 666 starts the album in grand style... think a mix of all the bands mentioned earlier... and throw in a couple of Thin Lizzy sounding guitars, and this will be the result... Songs like Blown Away and Barely Legal have a strong Corrosion of Conformity vibe... with a touch of Hellacopters special brand of high energy rock n roll... Shadow Woman sounds a little like Unida... with the addition of Josh Homme on guitar... and perhaps even Wino, that is if you you could slow down the speed and tune down the guitar the bit... I know, its a weird comparison, but I got a warped mind ;) Supernova got something that reminds me a little of Goatsnake... kinda doom sounding tune...towards the end of the tune it gets kinda funky, definitely one of my favorites from this CD. Other favorite tunes from this CD are the instrumental Words Fail (great title for an instrumental song), Scarecrow (this song isnt as fast as the stuff youre used to from these dudes... but its plenty heavy) and Throw The Dice... the last song, it once again has that high energy rock approach. To bad I dont live in Australia, I guess that wouldve been the only chance to see these dudes tear up a stage... judging from their songs and from what Ive heard about their live performances, they put on quite a show... a full on rock n roll blast out... it wouldve been great to catch one of those shows... maybe High Beam could release a live video (or DVD) with the bands on their roster... just a thought... once again, great album guys!!! ++ Back to Reviews
