The purpose of this feature is to give you an unbiased and diverse look at what the StonerRock.com Community thought were the best albums released in the year 2000. Well, as diverse as possible considering that we`re mostly die-hard heavy rock fans! We`ve provided a total of 5 lists to ensure as much diversity as possible. The first list was compiled from a poll conducted among the general members of the StonerRock.com Community, the second list is an individual member`s own list, and the final 3 lists were compiled by the staff here at StonerRock.com. Our staff lists were put together completely seperate from each other with absolutely no collaboration. None of us saw each other`s lists before they were complete so none of us could influence each other`s choices. We hope these lists povide new Stoner Rock fans with ideas for which albums they should pick up first and the die-hard fans with a list of great albums that they`re missing out on. And for all you American`s out there: There will be no re-counts! :)
Community Top 20 Albums of 2000
Between January 1st and 15th, 2001 we ran a competition on StonerRock.com that our community members could enter by submitting their "Top 10 Albums of 2000" lists. This was run like a poll with very strict rules. There were hundreds of lists submitted and very very few were suspicious. I personally went through every list and compiled a master list and then alloted points based on a strict and fair criteria. This took me many hours and I was extremely careful not to miss any submissions. I won`t reveal my system for determining the points because I don`t want people to cheat the next time we run a poll/competition like this but I will guarantee that this list is very accurate and gives you an almost perfect representation of what albums the StonerRock.com Community favours.

Official StonerRock.com Top Albums of 2000 Lists
Below you`ll find "Top 20 Albums of 2000" and "Top 10 EPs/Demos of 2000" lists compiled by StonerRock.com staff. Since there were so many great albums released in the year 2000 we decided to do an extra "Top 10" for EPs and Demos because it didn`t seem right to include our favourite EPs/Demos in the "Top 20 Albums" lists. More bands will get some exposure this way as well. So it`s all good! :0) Enjoy!

(Peter is an official reviewer/writer for StonerRock.com)
I was kinda surprised when I looked through the latest version of the top 20 list I had compiled. This top list has had many incarnations over the last couple of weeks, the only constants on it are the first fourspots, and theyve been in the same order the whole time! The rest have been shifting places since I started compiling this list. It aint easy squeezing in something like 50 great albums on a top 20 list, so I had to kill a few "darlings" also.
Since they didnt make the top 20, but were so close to making the final cut, I thought Id mention a few other contenders that Ive thoroughly enjoyed... Roadsaw, Cold Mourning, Negative Reaction, Daredevil, Cutthroats 9, Soul Preacher (but Soulpreacher did make the EP / Demo top 10), Firebird, Orange Goblin, Sunn0))), Mondo Generator, Dozer, The Mystick Krewe Of Clearlight, Celestial Season, Elevator, Hogwash, Payola, Alabama Thunder Pussy, Sixty Watt Shaman, Culebra and the list goes on and on. And theres still some of last year`s releases I havent had a chance to listen to... yet...

I made an "executive decision" and included albums with a short running length (under 35 mins.) on my top 10 EP & Demo list instead of on the album list. They might have the "official" title of a full length album or, like in the case of Soulpreacher, be considered an EP/MCD by the band (even though this album has a running length of 47 min., the last song "Deadnothingspace" is a long tripped out "experimental" instrumental... this makes the running length as long as it is)...
There were also a bunch of great releases that didnt quite make the top 10, or were on it in one of its earlier incarnations. Among them were Operator Generator, Ch, Shamens Ride, Greenleaf, the Alabama Thunder Pussy / Halfway To Gone split EP, Witch Mountain (no StonerRock.com nepotism here, hehe), Kaptain Sun, Thulsa Doom, two great EPs by WE and so on...

"High" hopes for 2001: 2000 was a very good year if youre into stoner rock, sludge and doom... and it looks like 2001 will be at least as good... the only bad thing with this many great releases is that itll ruin most of us to try to keep up with all the "must have" releases... yeah, even me... I dont get every release for free. But, if I wasnt a reviewer at StonerRock.com, I wouldve probably missed some real gems...
Many thanks to the bands, labels and distros for sending promos (and bribes :)... and all those great demos, keep `em coming!
Robwrong`s Top Albums of 2000
(Rob is an official reviewer/writer for StonerRock.com and is also the frontman of the Portland stoner/doom band Witch Mountain)
Things have been good in 2000, and I am looking forward to this new year in music. Last year was one of the greatest years for music I think. I`ll cut to the chase with my list.
I know there are some bands I left out, but in all fairness I picked what I truly liked, and not what was maybe the best musicianship - if you know what I mean. I liked more than what is on my list, but hey - reviews take a blurring toll on a man`s memory. Well, that and the space cakes too! I picked Mammoth Volume`s CD-R as my number one because it was the most unique blend of sounds with tons upon tons of emotion. Some of the songs are so strong in emotion, I find myself getting worked up listening to it (sob! sob!). They`ve covered a lot of area with it, and it sounds totally different than the Noara Dance EP - which is equally unique and almost as epic. Great band and great stuff... Band of the Year! That is all.

El Danno`s Top Albums of 2000
(El Danno is me! I am the owner, webmaster, writer and all-rounder at StonerRock.com)
Well. Well.. Well... What a huge year 2000 was for Stoner Rock fans! I myself believe that the year 2000 was the best year ever for Heavy Music. With so many quality releases to choose from I found it incredibly hard to narrow my list down to just 20 Albums and 10 EPs/Demos. There are easily 30 great albums that I couldn`t fit on my lists, most likely a lot more than that, so don`t feel too bad if your band isn`t here. This is only the cream of the crop! And don`t worry - it already looks like the year 2001 will be even better than the year 2000! Hooray! Now rush along and buy some of the albums listed in this feature, they all rule, and you know that you want to..
Because we get so many albums at StonerRock.com we don`t get as much time as we`d like to listen to the albums we really like as often as we`d like to. We`re usually listening to new stuff so it can be reviewed fairly. So the criteria that I based my list on was how often an album compelled me to go back and listen to it. Other factors that I considered while compiling my list were creativity, uniqueness, and diversity.
