| The New Pissing Razors guitarist has been chosen! The band decided to add a bit of raw, angry East coast energy to the bands dynamics with new guitarist Matt Difabio, formally of Single Bullet Theory. Pissing Razors are Eddy Garcia on Drums, Rick Valles on Bass, Andre Acosta on Vocals, and introducing Matt Difabio on Guitar. The band is currently in the studio writing new material for the next album due out in March 2003. Live 4 Metal Music Review Cathedral - The VIIth Coming Lee Dorrian and associates sure know how to warm the blackened hearts of Black Sabbath fans and doom fanatics. I am no exception. If you ask me, I would tell you that it is this style of music that the world needs more of. Cathedral does this style of doom metal mountains of justice, without sounding exactly like Sabbath (pretty close though). The production on this baby is first rate and the booming low-end sound is fabulous. The keyboards used on many songs add a cold and menacing feel, but stay far enough back so as not to diminish the guitar and bass fury. The lyrics in the liner notes are too damn hard to read - the artwork guy missed the boat on this one, unless the intent was to purposely induce dementia through eye strain. Many of the songs are high quality and quite long, while a few are just average. Phoenix Rising begins the proceedings. As one would expect, its a Sabbath march of plodding doom with big riffs. The catchy chorus of, from the ashes of demise, a burning phoenix shall arise, is sung by Dorrian in fine Ozzy fashion. Resisting the Ghost is metal boogie doom that kicks your ass up and down a darkened city street. This one grooves like a mother fucker! A fat ass bass intro and gigantic Sabbath riffs follow with Skullflower, which also features a crushingly slowed-down middle section that eventually builds up to the guitar solo and final verse. Munchs keyboard work shines on Aphrodites Winter. The sound is full of chilling doom and works perfectly with the clean guitar picking and driving bass. I also enjoyed the rip-roaring jam of Nocturnal Fist. As the guitar soloed and the bass provided cover fire, I began having visions of Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler. The bouncing rhythm of Congregation of Sorcerers just felt good. There is nothing especially original here, but I wasnt looking for the band to reinvent the wheel. I know exactly what Im going to get with Cathedral, and thats the way it should be. RECORD-SETTING TED Over 3,000 people turned out for TED NUGENTs November 14 CD/book signing at Borders Books & Music in Traverse City, Michigan, where the Motor City Madman signed copies of his latest album CRAVEMAN (his first in seven years), his newest book KILL IT AND GRILL IT (co-written with wife Shemane) and his New York Times best-seller GOD, GUNS & ROCK-N-ROLL! Marking the stores greatest attendance for such an event, scores of fans had to be turned away for safety reasons. Meanwhile, in a newly published Village Voice album review (11/13/02), George Smith wrote: TED NUGENT still puts more amplification on his stage than all of the current millennium repaints doing the Detroit thing combinedKLSTRPHNKME(actually KLSTRFCK-ME-nice vocal sleight-of-hand, TED) reintroduces NUGENT`s vibrating feedback and condescending sneer. The twittering TED-cackles are out in force, the man laughing at his guitar shots knowing they`re landing right between the eyes. Crave, the song, is a turkey shoot, setting up with a sinuous shake, hand-grenade power chord intervals, and provocative wah-wahTED`s full-time secret weapon is that his guitar playin`, for all its heaviness, never mars the rhythm. BLISTERING.COM Music Review
NAPALM DEATH "ORDER OF THE LEECH" There are no surprises on this one. When it comes to Napalm Death, you are assured of one thing: savage brutality and vitriolic lyrics. Yes, the band has changed their sound a bit since the 80s, moving from scathing hardcore to, well, extreme death-like brutality, but progression is a relative term here. Fortunately for the fans, this is no Risk or Americas Volume Dealer (although Im probably one of the few that liked both). In fact, Order Of The Leech is more compact and extreme in some ways than Enemy Of The Music Business. Of the two, Im probably partial to the bands previous release. One might even say that a few songs from Enemy, like `Constitutional Hell` and `Necessary Evil` were almost catchy... that is, in the most relative of terms. Regardless, if you liked Enemy Of The Music Business, chances are good that youll like Order Of The Leech. The music is absolutely relentless and the lyrics spewed forth from Barney Greenway are as left-of-left and pissed off as ever. You know exactly what youre getting with titles like `Continuing The War On Stupidity`, `The Icing On The Hate` (love that title), and `Forewarned Is Disarmed`. The turn-on-a-dime arrangements and tight delivery have always been highlights of Napalm Death latter day releases, and this one is no different. Like its predecessor, the production of Simon Efemey and Russ Russell is wonderfully dense and teeth rattling. Personally, I like the style on both albums better than any of the bands previous works (sorry, I got into the game late). If you crave a blow to the body and wake-up call to the brain, throw on Order Of The Leech and take your beating with a smile.
