Accolades for Tooth Helmet
This is a very psychedelic ride complete with keyboards and the whole retro trip. The album has a very 70's vibe yet paradoxically also feels so 'now'. If you're at all familiar with Baby Woodrose you'll know the vibe I'm talking about. The difference is that Spiha's songs and demeanor ooze pounds of hipster psychedelica and 80's rock and roll attitude. These songs are just so huge and so hard not to love. These guys do layer upon layer of sound - keyboard solos, psyche guitar, snare action. The songs conjuer up images of space ships and brightly flashing lights and the trip is real nice.
Tooth Helmet goes into free style jams and hooks back with 50's garage punk then turns around and busts into lo-fi hyped up aggression. It's a crazy cool album of garage psychedelica punkabily and the vocals, courtesy of Henry Lee Rock, are smooth and sexy as hell. You can really hear the subtle 80's influence throughout the disc. You'll also be impressed with the musicianship displayed by Spiha. You won't find any simplistic two tone drums here. Double guitar attacks and riffs as wide as the sky. The more I have listened to this album the more I appreciate it. If only this is what the mainstream radio stations would play! This is the perfect album to get people hooked on sonics. If you are a fan of psychedelic garage surf punk, then do check out Spiha. This is an excellent album that deserves to be heard. Rock on and spread the rock vibes! Definitely a very, very cool release.
This album includes the lost Spiha CD EP Tooth Helmet that was originally released in 2000 by Metamorphos and four live tracks. The vinyl presents a bit more raw, freer and at the same time more psychedelic Spiha. Very groovy blast with heavy fuzz sound and insane keyboard solos. It takes the listener into the hypnotic and weird psychedelic world of its own. And fuck what a bass sound! This superb vinyl release is worth getting right away.
