The Problem Thus Far

Ok, as you all know Kyuss broke up in 1995 as a result (as far as I know) of many factors including just the frustration of not being promoted and available so that all the relevant people/prospective fans out there could experience their sound. The labels, Dahli & Elektra both failed to deliver as far as pushing the Kyuss product to the extent it should have been and they got sick of it and called it a day.

Now this is fine and dandy, there is a very plausable reason why they would not wish to continue performing together, but now I will share with you a theory.

Kyuss, they toured around Cal. in the states 1989 onwards. Fine, no problems there.
They embarked upon numerous tours for Blues For The Red Sun and Wretch in North America and later in Europe and the UK. Again, no problems as such there. Sure they lost Chris Cockrell over those first years but consider that soon after that Nick joined he just dug the Kyuss groove a little deeper so it wasn't a wholly traumatic occurrence. What is unfortunate though is the fact that prior to the Australia tour they also lost Mr Oliveri and again the change in Bass carrier was not totally a bad thing, nonetheless it happened in the lead up to a tour here.

Alright, here comes the much hailed 1993 Metallica/Kyuss tour of Australia and what happens? ByeBye Brant. The best drummer to walk the Earth decides to depart and later become part of Fu Manchu. Nothing strange though, just a bad concidence...??

Again, Kyuss retire to the extremes of temperature reigning in Palm Desert. They record two more brilliant albums and subsequently tour on their backs to Europe and around North America.
Now, they decide, 'Well it would be nice to deliver to the much neglected, rabid Australian fans we havn't seen in two and a half years so lets tour there!!' Great a proposed Kyuss tour. Whooah, hold on there a second, cant have that. It would mean that the Australian population would have been exposed to what, two tours in three years by Kyuss. Oops, sorry cant have that. We had better break up instead. Again, possible coincidence.

Third time lucky? Not on your ass. Slo Burn, the best group to resolve itself since the fracturing of Kyuss in 1995 (Gamma Ray/Queens of the Stone Age is not really a group as much as it is one brilliant guy at work) decide to tour the sunburned country as they have not seen our shores for 5 years or so. Cool, here they come. With a support act arranged in the Melbourne band DernRutlidge for the Australian dates and fans becoming increasingly excited about the pending tour because of a vast lack of excellent bands out here, but one minute... Oh dear, again it would seem that the band preferred to split than tour here and sate the fan's dying hunger for good music. (no bitterness here of course)

Now, I am sure that this is not intentional on the band-member's part, they would keep it alive as long as possible I am sure, however, I must point out that for all of their sakes,(the band's and band member's) people like myself would have to travel to Japan or Europe in order to witness the live shows Kyuss were famed for and I am sure that Slo Burn and Josh's musical manifestations will deliver.

And so, it is therefore my unfortuante belief that if any member of the deceased band Kyuss feel the need to tour here for musical reasons, well, there will always be complications and members if not bands lost.
