Accolades for Countdown to Victory
Heavy doom psychedelic right out of the gates...reminds me of Eyehategod and Bongzilla. This 4 song self release starts out droning and building, with the same repetitive rhythm...then it breaks into a doomy riff monster full of swing and double bass fills. Spancer has the same kind of simplistic qualities that makes a band like Saint Vitus make sense. Heavy and simple with great little changes thrown in. The vocals are a little of the same thing...heavy band with growls, but hey. It's along the lines of Eyehategod, Sour Vein, Bongzilla, Sleep and Molehill.
Only four tracks here, with an average length of 9 minutes! Slow, groovy riffs meet a solid rhythm section and a hateful vox which spits out it's frustration and disappointment in anger. The ultra-heavy guitar sound and the slow 'Sabbathical' riffs, reminded me more that once of the relentless heaviness of Warhorse, but this vocalist has stayed off the whiskey bottle - one must be in a sober and clear mental state during the sonic attack which aims at destroying this pitiful world.
