Accolades for Dowsing Anemone with Copper Tongue
The songs sort of unfold, interspersing bursts of noise with tranquil lulls and a moody atmosphere. The first song on the album, is emblematic of this avant-metal approach. Imagine one note as a stone, and that stone is thrown into water. While the first ripples expand, more stones are dropped at various locations and at various times. The results are chaotic yet oddly natural. This is for the musically adventurous.
This is a sort of ambient experimental metal band... quite an undescribable sound. The songs are very calm, but the music attacks your eardrums in an aggresive way. It would make some excellent horror movie music. This record is darker than dark.
Kayo Dot is for those analytical in nature. For those who get bored by things that aren't challenging. For those who don't want other people doing the thinking for them. And most importantly, for those who can embrace things that they can't understand and don't let it hinder their personal enjoyment. It took me about 20 listens before I could even rate this and about 10 more before I felt strongly compelled to write a review. After all those listens I STILL wonder what the HELL these guys are doing, but MAN is it fascinating! It grows even more intriguing as I look at it from every conceivable angle I can think of. Had I already figured it out, it wouldn't even be half as enjoyable as it is now. This is 2006 and Kayo Dot have created the most refreshing, unique and by far the weirdest album I've ever heard.
