Accolades for Equilibrium
Abiding by the philosophy that instruments are there to be abused and pushed to the limits, Crowbar have always exhibited a hardhitting depressive feel to their music and Equilibrium follows along this theme. Vocalist/guitarist Kirk Windstein seemingly sings through bourbonsoaked vocal cords that have been subjected to some serious punishment. His sludgy and bellowing clean vocal style is the perfect compliment to the band's downtuned cacophony. A far cry from the monotonous dirge of many bands that play at a slow pace, Crowbar employ the use of enough variation to keep you trapped in the crushing momentum that this album lays down. Crowbar's flirtations with sonic experimentation are prevalent throughout the album and the guitar layering is absolutely colossal.
Equilibrium is a typically heavy, slow, doomy album from Crowbar featuring just the right balance between melody and the band's signature sludgy instrumental attack. This release doesn't radically reinvent the band's sound, rather it's another solid example thereof and a worthy addition to the band's discography.
