Accolades for Not Our Worst
Sloth are pretty crazy, and yet every step they take makes total sense, no matter how dumb it seems out of context or how lousy the punch-line is to the joke. The songs on this collection are all amazing - not a sleeper in the bunch, not even the answering machine version of "Anaconda". This album ranges from Karp-style heavy sludge to weird filler (the kind of shit you'd put on a mix tape crammed between Cabaret Voltaire and Brownsville Station). Don't think of this as a light-hearted play date, because it will blow your speakers and hurt your feelings. I expect Melvins, Karp, and Flipper fans getting way into this.
This music is raw, slow, doomy, and sludgy with low-tuned guitar riffs sounding like old Black Sabbath/early Cathedral. The vocals are rather high pitched, a little screamy and hardcorish with a few bizarre effects used, too. There's also a grind/noise feel through it. This CD is regorging with experiments, like interesting changings of sound quality from song to song. Another part of it is also very calm with clean vocals and even a few rare piano parts!
