Accolades for The Last Refuge of the Sons of Bitches
Having their own studio (Sniper Christian) has now allowed the band the time to really perfect and hone their skills. Expect a few surprises along the way as well: 12 string acoustic passages and the use of "clean" vocals to let a couple out of the bag. The ante has been upped and the stakes have been raised for another round of double barrel blasphemy.
Beaten Back to Pure are back with an even harder, angrier sound than before with their past release 'Southern Apocalypse'... It's southern drenched hardcore doom metal crossover in the same line of work as fellow Southerners Eyehategod and Molehill. A good chunk of this record could even at times remind one of a black metal band - I swear with the double bass drums and the vocals I catch a glimpse of 'Unleashed' in there somewhere. Musically, these guys are as tight as ever and truly punish with their sick progressive writings, stop/start parts, one off chunky riffs and slow doomy twists that send your brain into a pile of mush. If you dig Eyehategod, Man is the Bastard, Bloodlet, Today is the Day, chances are that you will dig on Beaten Back to Pure, it's hardcore metal stoner sludge not for the timid.
