Wormwood's non-standard instrumental lineup shifts music's melodic focus to the electric bass. Heavy, dynamic percussive rhythms, including kit and tribal drums, stand as the compositional foundation. Orchestral keyboards, piano, and sample-rooted soundscapes pervade the mid- and high-ranges. Subtle comparisons can be made with bands like Kylesa, Neurosis, Tarantula Hawk, even Skepticism. Elements of doom, crust, goth, metal and prog all swirl together into one horrible nightmare soundtrack. Recorded at the band's home studio in Seattle with the assistance of Billy Anderson, Wormwood features no guitars, but rather two basses, percussion, keyboards and samplers.
