Accolades for Speeder People
Another overwhelming album from these underestimated Dutch guys. Astrosoniq from Oss do it again with a new album containing a fresh whirlwind of psychedelic stoner. An album filled with a mix of heavy and dark driving spacey themes. Courage and diversity cannot be denied. They come closer than ever to icons Kyuss and Monster Magnet, in combination with musical side-steps towards fusion and the use of nicely found samples. The direct sound of Speeder People puts down a wall of sound which doesnt end up being a mess. Maybe this time they get the acknowledgement they deserve?
With Speeder People Astrosoniq once more shows their skills in writing good psychedelic soaked songs without sounding like a cheap '70s copy.
Their material is just such a passionate flow of ideas that gel with a twisted metallic groove that never seems to let up. Just check out numbers like Red Glow, the outrocking Six Pack, Orbital Relay and the unpredictable Quadrant el 6500/Its Monster Surfin Time and you'll see the dynamic diversity these wiz of os have to offer. Throw in a jazzy sad surprising cover of the Ornette Coleman song Lonely woman and this record just shines. Very riff-happy and listener-friendly, I like this more and more with each spin in my player. As it's logical, the music is astonishingly catchy, both guitar- and vocal-wise, with lots and lots of spacesound and sample-inducing parts. Theres a whole world of sounds waiting to be heard. Astrosoniq is one of them.
