The complete field guide for Cynics (Swe border 99)
Did I walked into a smoke filled basement somewhere circa 1972 here? Maybe
not but sure has hell feels like it. I was shocked at just how good this sounded,
think of a mix of Led Zeppelin and Free, and you start to get somewhere near
the sound on this. Stoner rock? Psych rock? Hard rock? Blues rock?, I'm not
about "bag it and tag it" that easy, there's something here for all rock music
fans.
Half Man are a 4 piece from Sweden, with heavy rifting guitars, pounding drums
and bass, power checked vocals, and with a large splash of acid guitar added
for extra enjoyment!! 12 and nearly an hour later, I was refreshed and ready
to listen all over again. From the opening bars of Blues ain't nothin, which
set out the plan for this CD, you start to get a feel for the sound which
Half Man want you to listen too. When the train comes back and Two drinks
of wine both take the blues direction, while Searching for a woman, Rodneys
song and Insane have a much harder sound.
I'd guess in the mainstream press this isn't going to get such glowing reviews,
maybe it does sound "a bit like it's been done before", but for me this was
kicking, music to fill the air and mind for late on a Saturday nite, when
a little too much to smoke and drink had been consumed. Last track on the
disc, Shake that thing finishes of just right, a hard rocker with a catchy
hook line.
I know with this CD Half Man have been preaching to the converted with me,
but marks out of 10?, 11, this one make's it to the "keeper pile".
