Accolades for Vegans Don't Play Rock 'n' Roll
Ahh, another sampler/compilation. This one features a band that I just recently reviewed called The Masons. KNowing their sound, and having limited prior knowledge of this 'Middle Class Pig' label; I was curious what the other bands on the roster sounded like when I first got a hold of this 'Middle Class Pig' Sampler. Well, the Masons are that dirty southern sounding garage blues that gets right under your skin. There is an overall rough 60's garage feel to this band, and the three cuts on this album are nothing short of strutting that. Check this out if you like greaser and the Stooges alike.
The next band up to bat is Cretin 66 who have a fuzzed out loud riff ridden sound with deep classic rock and blues roots. This stuff is a bit tighter production wise and more radio melodic...but it's some serious fuzz-er-riffic groove rock when the smoke clears. The Power of Rob Tyner is a good tribute to the late/great MC5 front man. Cocknoose is a band I have heard before. This stuff is more hard-edged punk rock rooted reminding me of DOA and Zeke...good hard rock with blood thinning vocals up front.
Other bands include: The Verdicts, The Hefners, Missing Brain and more...This comp has a good diverse selection of hard rock throughout...check it out if you like to hear a bunch of bands before getting the full album by 'em, and with ten bands on the CD this is quite the stack of rock. Check it out.
