The tale of Blind Dog

Sod that, I would rather read about when Blind Dog is eating Pizza.

It all started some five years ago, maybe six, seven at the most. It doesn’t really matter cause nothing interesting happened in those early years. Joakim Thell and Tobias Nilsson played in a band to bloody bad to even play punk rock. To cut things short: The members of the band (there had been different constellations over the years) grew in different musical directions (some hardly grew at all). The band split up and Thell and Nilsson formed a new band under the same name. The name of course, ”Blind Dog” (an earlier name for the band had been ”Hairy Bottoms” referring to the rear end of a former guitar player).

After trying various drummers the duo finally found Thomas Elenvik and a couple of years after that it actually started to sound good - so good in fact that the band got to appear on the very first stoner rock compilation CD ”Burn one up”.

Still, again Blind Dog suffered a period of stagnation. At least as far as record releases are concerned. This period was nevertheless a time were the band improved their sound and their songs.

It is actually not fair to speak of total stagnation: Blind Dog did release a 7¨ on Warpburner. Two songs (”10.000 Reasons” and ”Beyond My Reach”) later to be found on the full length CD.

Eventually getting tired of waiting for a record deal (it was also a time of spreading demo tapes) the guys in Blind Dog decided to make their own record.

And so they did: In the spring of 1999 they recorded in ”Berno studio”. It was a studio recommended by Michael Amott of Spiritual Beggars since it was in this studio the beggars recorded their first full length album.

A more detailed description of the recording can be found in the CD booklet.

After the release Blind Dog got contacted by MeteorCity and, again cutting things short, the album ”The Last Adventures of Captain Dog” was released by the very same company.

Blind Dog is eating pizza.

As told by Tobias Nilsson.

”Why are you doing that?” Tobias outbursted as Thomas spread his salad over his pizza.

”What?”

”Putting the salad on your pizza.”

”I like it like that.”

”But you’re ruining it.”

”Look, if he likes it like that, he should have like that.” Joakim added to the conversation.

”But a pizza is an already composed meal with it’s ingredients carefully selected and combined to achieve a calculated taste experience. When adding salad the balance is disrupted and hence it can no longer offer the consumer the intended flavours.”

”Why do you bother, it’s my pizza.” Thomas now clearly offended by Tobias’ remarks.

”The salad is meant to be an appetiser.”

Joakim, now halfway through his pizza, again intended to add his remark but was effectively hindered by a large piece of dough in his mouth: ”Mmf…”

The other two looked at him: A man at this time at the peak of his corpulence. (Soon after this his body mass would lessen, but he would still from time to time refer to the saying that he coined while still a large man: ”A thin guitarist has no credibility playing fat riffs.”) Stunned by the wisdom hidden behind the ”Mmf…” Thomas and Tobias seized their argument and quietly resumed their eating. Joakim, thinking that further comments would be beneath him, let a swift facial movent show that he was content. Whether this contentment was a result of the other two being quiet or over the food beginning to reach his belly, there was no telling. Which ever the case he resumed eating even he.
