Accolades for Turn to Stone
Pentagram is a very old school band, which released their first 7" in 1972. This compilation covers three albums which they made for Peaceville: Pentagram (1993, re-titled for Peaceville as Relentless), Day of Reckoning (1993) and Be Forwarned (1994). Although these albums are quite new, all songs on this compilation are breaths from the past. Pentagram delivers classic doom rock, which is not far away from Black Sabbath (there is even a line "all right, won't you listen?" in Evil Seed). Pentagram's style however includes more shades of today's doom and so it's darker than material of Ozzy and the boys. However Pentagram doesn't forget to rock and rumble and these faster songs - like Madman - bring refreshing variety to doomier material. Also singer Bobby Liebling's original voice lifts Pentagram far away to the sky from the usual doom.
If you like early Sabbath and Blue Cheer, then this band is a must have. These guys were around when the world and rock was changing on an almost daily basis. These guys are a true lost buried gem that deserve to be heard far and wide. Get this one if you care about true doom, and true classic rock. These guys have changed my life.
