| Penance, a virtual institution within Pittsburgh and within Doom itself, has been continuously overlooked and criminally underrated for years. Having come up alongside the likes of Sleep, Trouble and The Obsessed, the unique musical dirge that is Penance tells the aural saga of a thousand different faces and their infinite tales of woe and suffering...but you probably already knew that. Upon moving to Pittsburgh in February 2001, Martyr Music had the good fortune to find this undiscovered diamond amongst the rubble before the vultures swooped in. Tentatively scheduled for August 21st, the upcoming full-length, "alpha and omega," will not only showcase the dynamic development of the band`s songwriting but also embrace their majestic past. Clocking in at over an hour, "alpha and omega" includes material from Penance`s self-released "Proving Ground" CD, the previously unreleased "Turn For The Worse" MCD alongside new material to be recorded in May 2001. The current and strongest line-up to date includes founding members Mike Smail and Terry Weston, long-time frontman Brian `Butch` Balich and announcing Matt Tuite, formerly of Wickerman and Mustache, and Mary Bielich, formerly of Mythic, Wormhole, Em Sinfonia, et al.
