Accolades for Another Era Ending
During their reign in the early 90s, Neuthrone were European pioneers of slow, heavy doom fused with progressive influences. Taking their cue from classic acts such as Celtic Frost, Ssint Vitus, Trouble, Melvins, and Voivod, Neuthrone succeeded in amalgamating contrasting styles to develop their own sound.
The songs on this record form a tale of two halves. The first five songs are relatively long with skillfully arranged structures that can transform from galloping riffs to slow haunting passages. Powerfully intense and always heavy, Neuthrone also incorporate many delicate melodic parts that add to the dark atmosphere. The second half of the record the songs are short and more reminiscent of early grind/crust. There is a great cover of Saint Vitus Born Too Late". The remastered production is still very raw, but this fits very well with the style of music. The distorted riffs are mighty but during the cleaner sections the instruments are warm and distinct. Overall, there is an authentic vintage doom vibe. Any fans of early doom such as Sleep, Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Penance will greatly appreciate this record. A minor cult classic. Listen loud.
