One.Point.Three - Broken Arms Race
Review by Nick DeMarino (StonerRock.com)
Nice Life Records
Release Date: 2008

One of the nice things about writing for this site is that occasionally I find out about great bands in my backyard. Case in point Columbus metalcore trio One.Point.Three. Damnit, I didn’t mean to say metalcore, but now it’s too late. Wait a minute - keep reading! Metalcore doesn’t always indicate tripe; it’s just a blanket term a few shitty record companies hijacked to hock new death metal.

One.Point.Three is an interesting mix of gigantic guitars and spastic rhythms. At their heaviest they’re reminiscent of Indian, at their most hardcore they’re reminiscent of Breach. The music is fast, aggressive, and to the point, but guitarist/vocalist Mike.3 doesn’t skimp on the riffs. Indeed, there are some great grooves on the records between spouts of epileptic spaz outs. These juxtapositions aren’t just clever, they’re necessary. The most straightforward tracks are the ones that fall flat. Standouts include “Mask of the Wolf,” the proggy “Cloud of Locust” and “Sleepwalking with a Knife,” and menacing “The Red Scare.” If they cut the fat, Broken Arms Race would make a great EP. As it stands, One.Point.Three has a great sound, a few great songs, but needs to cull some of the obvious progressions.

Good live unit. I'll have to chase this one down.
